What is Advent? The word "Advent" comes from the Latin word for "coming". Christianity celebrates the Advent season as the four weeks leading up to December 24th.
Each week has its' own theme; Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love, respectively.
This week we celebrate HOPE, so I wanted to share a bit of Hope with you all. 🕊️
The last time I saw my brother was a month before he passed. Full of smiles and full of life. How much I wish I could just soak in that moment with him again.
It was in his passing that a lot of yuck came to light once again, as childhood trauma often does, unfortunately. It was in his passing I was finally able to process things with my mom. It was painful. It was ugly. And while I was living it out, a lot of it felt hopeless.
Fast forward a few (short) four years later. I saw my mom for the last time alive and well... And then a month later, as if history was repeating itself, I was by her side to say an overwhelming and sudden goodbye.
It was in the wake of her death, though, that God showed me His goodness. As much as I hate that this was my brother's story, my mom's story, and now my own present story, I can see His hand in all of it. My brother had to die first, so I could FINALLY after years and years make peace with my childhood and my mom's mental health robbing me of so much.
I'm here to say this to you - Hope is always offered to us in any situation. Even, maybe especially, when it feels hopeless. Prayer changes things. And healing can most certainly happen, even if it takes years.
God is good, in his own timeline. If it's not good, He's not done yet. Believe that. If I can, through everything, you can, too. ❤️
"Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, and be constant in prayer." Romans 12:12
